About Skylines & Sunshine

Hi, I’m Abby and I’m glad you are here!

My husband, little boy, 2 dogs, and I have made our little home in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.  I also own a photography studio that caters to children from newborns on up and families.  I love both of my jobs so much.  I always knew two things when I was little – I wanted to be an adult and I wanted to be a Mom – now that I am both, it is every bit as wonderful as I thought it would be!

This is our baby boy William.  He is the kindest, smartest, sweetest, and most interactive baby boy I have ever met.  Having an audience is his idea of a good time; smiling and making new friends are his favorite activities.  He was born on October 3rd at Prentice Hospital. I always think, “you can’t get more Chicago then being born practically on Michigan Ave”. Okay, well maybe if he was delivered by Mike Ditka, in the shadow of Soldier on LSD while his Daddy reprimanded the delivery guy for putting ketchup on his hot dog.

Speaking of our Daddy, he is the hardest working man I know. He is currently finishing up his MBA at Kellogg and loving every minute of it. Every once in awhile, when he is excitedly jabbering on about all of his innovative work, I think to myself, “you are going to keep me here in Chicago forever, aren’t you?”

Which wouldn’t be the worst thing. We are honestly lucky enough to live in one of the best cities in the world. Chicago is clean, friendly, diverse, and a lot of fun. I’ve met an amazing tribe of Moms and we have learned so much from each other. There are a lot of quirks and tricks to being a “city Mom” and I look forward to sharing them with you.

That is how this blog came about.  While hunting for the best sippy cup to teach a baby how to drink water, to give or not to give puffs, or simple conversations like we used to have – I counted on my village of Mom friends.  When I reached out to the internet, I could not find any straightforward, friendly, and interesting blogs like my old favorites before having kids (such as here, here and here).  My interests had changed.  Although I love seeing the latest exotic travels, new fashions, or fancy food of my old blog haunts, they just didn’t have the same resonance they once did.  I hope that this blog can be a community for you to find useful information, feel connected, and escape for a bit.

Welcome, I am glad you are here, and I would love to get to know you better!
